Otus and Teacher Assignments

Distance learning this year will be a combination of live teacher instruction, live small group work, and independent work assigned by the teacher. RCSD will be navigating Distance Learning through Otus, our new learning management system. Otus will take the place of Google Classroom and will be the platform used for lessons/assignments, grading and reporting, curriculum, and communication with teachers. The goal is to have a “one stop shop” so families can navigate their child’s learning in one spot, and teachers are accessible for instruction and support. Families will receive their child’s teacher assignment on Tuesday, August 4th through Otus. RCSD will email directions on how to log into Otus and retrieve their child’s information.

Back to School Night

Back to School Night will be done virtually on Friday, August 7th. Your child’s teacher will upload their BTSN video into Otus by 4:00 pm. Don’t forget to visit Music and PE (K – 5th) to hear from Ms. Gallegos and Mrs. Smith too!

Materials Deployment

All families: Please plan on attending Saturday, August 8th within your designated time in the Bears’ Lair to pick up your child’s materials.

  • 9:00 – 12:00 Last Name A – M
  • 1:00 – 4:00 Last Name N – Z

In order to maintain staff safety, we ask that only one parent/guardian pick up materials (children should not attend), wear a mask, maintain social distancing, and follow all pick up procedures upon arrival. We are hoping for a quick in and out so please no loitering or gathering.

***If you are unable to attend on August 8th, please make arrangements to have another family pick up your child’s materials or call the front office to make an appointment for pick up (916-771-1700).***

Chromebook Deployment

If your child does not have a chromebook to work from you may also check one out during your designated time on August 8th. Chromebooks may only be checked out to a parent/guardian so we ask that you bring your photo ID, your own pen, and follow all safety protocols (i.e. wear a mask and maintain social distancing)

First Day of School

We are so excited to see all of our Blue Oaks Bears virtually on Monday, August 10th. Teachers will be following our bell schedule for distance learning so students will be engaged in learning (whole group, small group, independent work) throughout the entire school day. Please remember that Mondays are PLC Schedule and (1st – 5th) will have early dismissal at 1:43.

Throughout the first few weeks of school, teachers will be focusing on building connections with students and families while practicing with technology and procedures/protocols to create and foster a positive and rigorous digital learning environment. Once students become familiar with the digital learning interface, teachers get to know their students (both personally and academically through beginning of year assessments) you will see the academic rigor gradually increase. While this school year feels a little different than a typical year, our staff and teachers have been working diligently to make it a great learning experience for all of our bears. We are proud to be a part of such a supportive community and have confidence that with our continued parent-school partnership, all of our bears will soar to great heights this school year!
