Bear Bulletin 9/26-9/30

Article Nicole Cumbra

Dear Blue Oaks Families,

I would like to introduce our new staff members. We have two new staff members that I would like to introduce you to, Jaime Shule and James Madison. Jamie is our new health assistant and James Madison is our new evening custodian. Below is information on Jamie Schule, still to come is information and a picture of James Madison.

-I have been working with the RCSD starting in 2009 as an Instructional Aide in Special Day and Autism Special Day classes.  This is my first year as Health Assistant and I am enjoying the new challenge. I am so excited to be working at Blue Oaks with many familiar faces and meeting new ones. Fun fact…I am a proud Cheesehead, Go Packers!

Thank you parents/ guardians that came to our 1st PTC meeting. We had a large turn out and appreciate your support.  Joining the PTC is a great way to be a part of your student’s education and school.

On Friday we practiced a lock down drill in the morning. The students are doing a nice job of practicing our monthly drills. Our next drill will be on Oct. 20th and we will be practicing an earthquake drill.

As a reminder, our WATCH DOG launch party is this Thursday from 3:30-4:30. At 4:00 I will begin a short presentation explaining the program and what DOGS can expect.  No need to panic if you can’t make the meeting as all the information will be shared in the blog. I can’t wait to see everyone!

Thank you for taking the time to read the Bear Bulletin!

Thank you,

Nicole Cumbra

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th at 3:30-4:30 will be the launch party for Watch DOGS.

Any parent/ guardian/father-figure/Influential person may attend to gather information on what it means to be a Watch DOGS and hopefully sign up too! Our students love seeing adults on campus to play with them at recess and support them in the lunchroom!  The actual commitment won’t begin until October and all you need is to have your level 2 volunteer paperwork turned in along with fingerprints and a TB test.

Here is a great video about Watch DOGS.

Next Coffee and Conversation will be on Friday Oct. 14th at 10:00-10:45 and we will discuss safety. The zoom presentation will begin promptly at 10:00 and may end before 10:45 but you are welcome to ask any questions you may have or continue on with your day.

Did you know that Blue Oaks has two PBIS teams?  We have a Tier 1 and a Tier 2 team. Below is more information about our Tier 1 team.

The Tier I team is responsible for the development and monitoring of our site’s Tier I, universal foundations (e.g., expectations, consequences, and acknowledgments).   We monitor and support the fidelity of the Tier I implementation. The Tier I PBIS team’s operating procedures are to: meet at least monthly and have (a) regular meeting format/agenda, (b) minutes, © defined meeting roles and (d) a current action plan. The Tier I team will review and use discipline data and academic outcome data at least monthly for decision-making.  The PBIS team will share school wide data regularly with faculty and faculty will be able to provide input on universal foundations at least once a year. Stakeholders (students, families and community members) will also provide input at least once a year.

PBIS Tier 1 Team:

Nicole Cumbra- Administrator

Mandy Murphy- Kindergarten teacher representative

Hannah Pierce- PBIS Lead and 5th grade teacher representative

Mindy Corr- Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)

Heather Schott- Parent representative

We had our first monthly meeting and reviewed our school-wide office discipline referrals.  Below is data for August and September:

August – 54 office referrals

September- 64 minor office referrals. 40% of those were for defiance, insubordination, and non-compliance in the classroom.
